ECO Ride

The project I'm currently using most of my time on is the ECO Ride app (ECORideApp.com). It's an app for the iPhone, where you very easily can find other people to drive with, whenever you are going anywhere.

Say you need to get to another city, and would have to use the train, bus or your own car. Instead, you could just request a ride to that city, and if anyone where going there, they could send you a message, that they can pick you up. Or say that you are going to drive somewhere, and when you're leaving, you just check the app to check if anyone needs a ride to that place. If there is, you can offer to drive them there. Not only does it save your money: you also help the environment, but having fewer cars on the road.

Drivers will be able to find people, who needs a ride.

I'm working as programmer on the project, along with 3 other people. We started on the project for the one-weekend iPhone development contest at CCDC (Copenhagen Cocoa Developers Conference) 2009, where we won the first place with a prototype of this app. Since then, it has been much developed, and we're constantly improving it.

It's limited how much information I can give at the moment, because of the speed at which things change. We're constantly thinking of new ways to make it as accessible, user friendly and easy to setup as possible, because we want a lot of people to get started using the service as soon as it gets available. ECO Ride will be a free app and free service, because we want to get less cars on the roads, which means fewer accidents and a smaller impact on the environment. It also makes transportation more affordable, and it's all powered by the people using it. That's the spirit of ECO Ride: Easy, ecological, economical, co-operative rides.
